Nautical Nursery

Nautical is the hype these days, so naturally I went to town on it with my little man's nursery. I thought I'd post a few photos of his crib (literally) and a few other fun goodies in his room. Enjoy!

After I found and bought the boat rental sign, I came across this one, which I love, love, love!  So cute.  Oh well, I guess you can't win them all.

His big sister loves the starfish, and they were super cheap!!

This shelf was a super deal - I think my husband made it for about $10 total.  He bought a piece of wood and about 6 feet of rope from Home Depot.  He stained the wood with Minwax Whitewash Pickling Stain, tied a couple of knots in some rope, and voila - instant, nautical themed shelf for our little man's books!

The oar you see suspending the letters of Dominic's name was just a basic oar that we ordered from Amazon.  My husband sanded it down lightly with his orbital sander, and then used Minwax Whitewash Pickling Stain to stain it a nice "weathered white."  He then "distressed" it with a variety of tools - orbital sander, framing hammer, file, etc.

  1. I am happy to find your distinguished way of writing the post. Now you make it easy for me to understand and implement the concept. Thank you for the post.

  2. Hi! I love that bookshelf! Can you please share what you used to suspend the rope on the wall...what are those silver ring looking thingies? Thanks so much! I am stealing that whole room, you guys did a fantastic job!
